Palma de Mallorca

Palma de Mallorca is the capital of the Balearic Islands and one of the leading tourist destinations in Europe.  

 

 

The name of the city comes from Roman times when the city was called Palmeria. In the Middle Ages Palma was an important world port. The Old Town is today one of the largest and best preserved in Europe and home thousand of world cultural heritage. 

The old city center is amazing. The maze of alleyways is surrounded by beautiful palaces and Art Nouveau buildings.

Here we find countless shops, stylish bars, elegant restaurants, traditional tapas bars. Palma has a lot to offer.

A trip to Palma should be combined with a visit to the Cathedral Le Seu. According to legend, the king Jaime I and his army came to Mallorca in a big storm. Jaime I prayed to the Virgin and promised her to build a church in case of his survival. So the king, after conquered the island from the Moors in 1230, put the stone of the cathedral. The construction took several centuries and the main facade was not completed until the early 20th century. 

 

 

Nowadays the Gothic Cathedral is one of the most beautiful churches in the world, located right in front of the harbor.Very impressive!!!

 

Below the Cathedral is the quay and the long promenade with flowers, green areas and palms.

 

 

 

The fishing port is followed by the crowded marina with speedboats and impressive royal yachts...

 

 

 

...and magnificent luxury hotel. 

 

This vibrant historic city has much to offer. Mallorca is world famous with its natural beaches. One of the best known sandy beaches in Mallorca is Playa de Palma.  

The beach is wide and clean but also very busy during the summer months.
