Amsterdam Venice of the North

Amsterdam is so fascinating with its many aspects. There is always something interesting to see here: picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and incredible examples of traditional local architecture.

Amsterdam is often compared to Venice because the city has approximately 90 islands connected with 1200 bridges. This is one of the most beautiful European capitals, particularly impressive with its wonderful nature.

The Museumplein and I Amsterdam sign.

I always have fun walking here. This is definitely a beautiful green area with all museums around: Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk Museum, Diamond Museum, Van Gogh Museum and the Royal Concertgebouw.

Right in the heart of the city is located Rijksmuseum, one of the most interesting museums in Amsterdam and one of the best in Europe.

The museum is no doubt an essential visit when in Amsterdam, this is an extremely popular and crowded destination.

Rijksmuseum is one of my favorite museums because here is the biggest collection of Dutch masters paintings.

During my stay in Amsterdam I visited the museum a couple of times and every time admired the rich collections of this top quality gallery. Inside you can find everything- paintings, furniture, shipping models.

Van Gogh Museum, another awesome museum that represents an excellent view of Van Gogh’s life and work. The paintings are combined with many letters and poems inspired and touched by Van Gogh’s story, genius, perspectives and passions. What an amazing tribute! Visiting this museum is definitely one emotional experience not to be missed.

Royal Concertgebouw

Vondelpark is just across the street. This particular park is spacious- lakes, trees, alleys and many green areas but definitely not the best park I have seen. It is just a relaxing place to get away from the city. I have been here often in different times of the year and it is always one great and natural calm area.

The city center of Amsterdam represents a mixture of shops, cafes, great buildings and galleries. The area between Leidseplein and Dam Square is so fascinating.

I strolled every day here and enjoyed the views and the crowds and the famous canals, each one of them is different and has something unique to offer. They were built in 17th century and represent the Dutch Golden Age

Canal Ring (Grachtengordel) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2010. This is an extremely beautiful historical site and a landmark of the city.

Herengracht is one of the nicest canals to walk around and enjoy the spectacular buildings along the canal.

The spirit of Amsterdam is to walk around the canals, to cross the bridges and enjoy the architecture. It is highly recommended to explore this fabulous area.

Keizersgracht is also another romantic place with its typical houseboats. This is Amsterdam at its best. The little bridges look superb.

Prinsengracht is lined with traditional houses, houseboats and restaurants. This is definitely a lovely area to stroll around the cobbled paths.

The most impressive church here is the Westerkerk and the buildings around are built in the architecture style of the Dutch Golden Age.

Jordaan is one of the most famous neighborhoods in Amsterdam, a perfect place for strolling ad enjoying the beautiful houses and architecture around. This is one excellent location and a vibrant area. It is very much worth visiting by tourists and locals. The major attraction is Anne Frank House.

Beautiful view from a canal boat towards the houses and the typical Amsterdam atmosphere.

The classic beauty of Amsterdam. When I think of Holland I always think of this picture- canal, bike, boat.

Single circled the medieval city of Amsterdam and runs from the IJ Bay close to the Central station to the Amstel River.

Not to be missed is the river Amstel which flows through the city. Here is the best place to relax, walk around or just rest on a bench.

I truly enjoy this area with lovely views and plenty of places to stop and enjoy or just take a pleasure boat cruise along.

Stunning view towards the Opera house and amazing mix of architecture styles.

Another fantastic museum in Amsterdam is the Maritime museum, located close to the central station. I really enjoy this area and the location of the museum, surrounded by water. This is just a fascinating exhibition for everyone interested in naval history.

Close to it is located the modern-styled Nemo museum, dedicated to children. In front of it is a reconstruction of the ship used by the Dutch Navy.

The monument of Rembrandt with life size bronze statues showing his painting 'Night Watch'.
