Madrid has a lot of parks and green areas. One of the best
known and preferred by tourists and locals is The Buen Retiro Park. This is one
of the largest parks right in the heart of the Spanish capital.
Located close to the Porta of Alcala and Prado museum, the
park is one quite paradise in the busy city.
Retiro has been initially used by the Spanish Monarchy but
in the late 19th century, has been opened for public.
A magnificent park has a lot to offer. The long alleys are,
filled with beautiful sculptures and monuments. There are numerous gardens and
fountains to discover and explore. The major paths and walkways in this
fabulous park are used by runners and bikers.
Great place for a stroll and get away from city centre
crowds.
Estanque del Retiro, the peaceful lake is one of the best
known tourist attractions. One can even rent a little boat and row across the
central lake. Right next to it is the monument to King Alfonso XIII.
The Rosaleda rose garden, superbly beautiful and expiring
garden.
Following the green alleys we reach Palacio de Cristal a
quite extraordinary glass building decorated with ceramics. Initially used as a
greenhouse, the palace now is a preferred place for exhibitions.
