Monasteries in Bulgaria

Vratza Mountain is particularly impressive, not just with the breathtaking nature, but also with the numerous small monasteries, hidden in the most remote and difficult to reach areas.

One of them is the idyllic monastery Sedemte prestola. The monastery is one of the most interesting in Bulgaria and impresses with its unique architecture plan. The church has seven altars dedicated to seven different saints.

The monastery has been destroyed in the 14th century by the Ottomans but later reconstructed and has become one of the main cultural and religious centuries in Bulgaria.

Cherepish monastery, close to the village of Cherepish, is another holy site, a main attraction and important destination for pilgrims. The monastery has been the place where some of the most important Bulgarian medieval and religious books have been written.

Another fascinating destination to visit in the region is the Clisura monastery. Situated just 6 km away from the town of Varshec, the monastery complex is so beautiful with its gardens, wooden buildings and breathtaking mountain landscapes.
