Genoa, La Superba
In north-west Italy, the Liguria region bordering France is
so impressive with its hills and breathtaking landscapes overlooking the impressive
Ligurian coastline. The marvel of the nature offers a real paradise for
numerous tourists who come here to admire nature or to seek the thrill of sport
in one of the many protected areas.
Multi-faceted and full of history Genoa is the capital of
Liguria and ranges among the most fascinating Italian cities and one of the
major economic centers. The city has been one of the main Mediterranean ports and an important financial center during centuries.
The port of Genoa, Porto Vecchio is the busiest in Italy and
the long promenade reveals fantastic views towards the city.
This is a nice
place to sit in some of the many cafes and enjoy the magnificent views and the
yachts.
It is so relaxing to walk along the port, watch boats and relax on
benches.

botanical and animal garden.
Here we also visited the Aquarium of Genoa, one of the
biggest in Europe, large and well-organized.
The city center of Genoa is a maze of countless, narrow,
winding side streets, squares and ancient historical shops which give us a
feeling about life in Middle Ages.

Via Garibaldi is a unique combination of late-Renaissance
and Baroque buildings. Passing through the historical part of Genoa, we reach Piazza
Ferrari, another landmark of the city, famous with its fountain.
The majestic square is surrounded by several financial
buildings and Palazzo della Borsa.

which has another
access also on Piazza Matteotti. Palace was built between 1251 and 1275. The
interior is impressive. Inside there are always exhibitions.
Close to the palace is Teatro Reale, an important opera
house in Genoa.
A must see stop in Genoa is the church Chiesa del Gesu e dei
santi Amborgio e Andrea. The church looks ordinary from outside but its
grandeur and wealth inside are amazing.
Behind the church are the impressive Torri di porta Soprana,
very close also to the house of Christopher Columbus, who was also born in
Genoa.
Right in the heart of the old town is the impressive
building of the Cathedral, dedicated to Saint Lawrence was consecrated in 1118
and built during centuries. It represents the wealth and power of Genoa during
the Middle Ages.
Fantastic architecture with the marble that forms the façade
has white, grey and pink shades.
Genoa is unforgettable due to its glorious past and
fascinating landmarks, a city full of history and traditions. The wide varieties
of its attractions are perfect for every type of tourist in search of culture,
fun and relaxation.
